ORDPB Organized English Training Programme at the Pikun Thong Royal Development Study Centre, Narathiwat Province Between 12 – 15 March 2019

Since the Office of the Royal Development Projects Board (ORDPB) is the main coordinator in coordinating, supporting, conducting, and evaluating the results of the royal development projects as well as disseminating the knowledge on the royal initiatives in both Thailand and aboard. Throughout these years, foreign delegates, private sector and educational institutions from around the world have visited and observed the implementations conducted at the Royal Development Study Centres. Accordingly, the ORDPB puts an emphasis on improving the English skills of the officials from the Royal Development study Centres and its officials. Moreover, English is as an official language; therefore, the improvement of English language is important for communication and dissemination on the royal initiatives.

Between years 2015 – 2018, the ORDPB conducted the English training programmes in preparation for the integration of the ASEAN community for the officials of 6 Royal Development Study Centres (RDSCs) and the officials of the ORDPB to improve English skills of the officials. However, there are quite a number of rotation in positions and responsibilities of many officials at the RDSCs who already attended the English training programmes. This causes the lack of the officials who can serve as English speaking tour guides and resource person at the centres.

In fiscal year 2019, between 12 - 15 March 2019, the ORDPB proceeded to launch the English Training Programme for the Officials of the Royal Development Study Centres and the Office of the Royal Development Projects Board, accounting for 30 hours (4 days). There were 20 of the officials attended the course. The course was operated by the well-known instructor from Andrew Biggs Academy which is under the supervision of Ministry of Education.

The training places the most emphasis on improving the skill of using English as the tour guide. The participants learned how to greet and welcome various delegates formally and informally. The participants also had the opportunity to practice giving a briefing around the Pikun Thong Royal Development Study Centre. In addition, they brushed up the skills of asking and answering questions commonly posed by the visitors. Delightedly, the textbooks had been specifically prepared for the training, with the information provided by Foreign Affairs Group of ORDPB. The books were made for the participants to be used and applied practically. The result of the English Training Programme was satisfactory and the English skills of the officals were improved.
