Doi Tung (Implementation Site) Development Project, Mae Fa Luang District, Chiang Rai Province

 

Royal Initiatives:

On February 5, 1987, the Late Princess Mother gave the initiatives for the agencies concerned to consider developing the Doi Tung Development Project appropriately which includes solving the problems of forest deterioration, trees cutting for slash-and-burn agriculture, opium planting, and poor quality of life of the people in the area.

Later, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn was assigned to fulfill the royal initiatives of the Late Mother Princess in order to bring about the betterment of the people in the project area.

 

Areas of Implementation:

Mae Fah Luang District, Chiang Rai Province

Objectives:

1. To develop the forest in the project area to become abundant and to be the watershed areas.

2. To conduct the study and experimentation, and develop the plantation of vegetables while collecting and propagating plant varieties to further distribute among the villagers in the area.

3. To develop the community and the quality of life of the people in the project area, particularly in the economic and social aspects.

Benefits:

1. The villagers learn to conserve the natural resources to be the watershed areas which will bring about the better quality of life of the people.

2. The well-being and the health of the villagers are improved and better. The villagers have stable occupations to earn a living all year round.

3. The villagers stop earning a living from illegal occupations and take part in developing their communities, resulting in the better well-being of the people.
