On “Being a Tour Guide at the Royal Development Study Centres”

For the Officers of the Royal Development Projects

The Office of the Royal Development Projects Board (ORDPB) is the main coordinator in coordinating, supporting, conducting, and evaluating the results of the royal development projects as well as disseminating the knowledge on the royal initiatives both in Thailand and aboard. Throughout these years, foreign delegates, private sector and educational institutions from around the world have visited and observed the implementations conducted at the Royal Development Study Centres. Accordingly, the ORDPB puts an emphasis on improving the English skills of the officials from the Royal Development study Centres and its officials. Moreover, English is as an official language, the improvement of English is important for communication and dissemination on the works according to the royal initiatives.

Between fiscal years 2017 - 2020, the ORDPB had successfully organized the English Training Courses at Khao Hin Sorn Royal Development Study Centre; Pikun Thong Royal Development Study Centre; and Huai Sai Royal Development Study Centre, to improve the English language skills of the officers.

In fiscal year 2022, between 28 March – 1 April 2022, the ORDPB proceeded to launch the Online English Course for the officials of the Royal Development Study Centres and the Office of the Royal Development Projects Board, accounting for 30 hours (4 days). There were 20 of the officials attended the course. The course was operated by the well-known instructor from Andrew Biggs Academy which is under the supervision of Ministry of Education.

The training places the most emphasis on improving the skill of using English as
the tour guide. The participants learned how to greet and welcome various delegates formally and informally. The participants also had the opportunity to practice giving a briefing around the
Royal Development Study Centre. In addition, they brushed up the skills of asking and answering questions commonly posed by the visitors. The textbooks had been specifically prepared for the training, with the information provided by Foreign Affairs Group of ORDPB. The books were made for the participants to be used and applied practically.
The result of the English Training Course was satisfactory and the English skills of the officials were improved.
