ORDPB Organized English Training Programme at the Khao Hin Sorn Royal Development Study Centre, Chachoengsao Province Between 20 – 23 March 2018

Since the Office of the Royal Development Projects Board (ORDPB) is the main coordinator in coordinating, supporting, conducting, and evaluating the results of the royal development projects as well as disseminating the knowledge on the royal initiatives in both Thailand and aboard, the ORDPB puts an emphasis on improving the skills of using English language of its officials. Moreover, English is as an official language; therefore, the improvement of English language is important for communication and dissemination on the royal initiatives.

Between 2015 – 2016, the ORDPB conducted the English training programmes in preparation for the integration of the ASEAN community for the officials of 6 Royal Development Study Centres (RDSCs) to improve English skills of the officials. And in 2017,
the English training programme was also arranged for the officials of the ORDPB.
However, nowadays there are some changes of positions and responsibilities of many officials at 6 RDSCs who already passed the English training programme. The changes cause the lack of the officials playing the roles of English speaking tourist guides and resource person for several activities at the centres.

In 2018, between 20 - 23 March 2018, the Foreign Affairs Group of ORDPB proceeded to launch the English Training Programme for the Officials of the Royal Development Study Centres and the Royal Development Projects Board, accounting for 30 hours (4 days). There were 20 of the officials attended the course. The course was operated by the well-known instructor from Andrew Biggs Academy which is under the supervision of Ministry of Education.

This aspect of the curriculum commanded the most attention. Students learned how to greet guests, welcome them, introduce speakers, then take them on a tour. Some basic but important vocabulary was practised in the classroom. Both formal and more informal English models were practised, depending on the identity of the visitors. Then, on Day Two, students went outside and were shown around the Khao Hin Sorn Royal Development Study Centre. In addition, students practised asking and answering questions commonly posed by visitors. Accordingly, the textbooks had been specifically prepared for the training, with the information provided by Foreign Affairs Group of ORDPB. The books were made for the participants to be used and applied practically.
